WC MN | The Wall St Journal Wednesday edition has a story titled "West takes Wrong Lessons from Wuhan". China fumbled around with their virus response, eventually what worked for them was segregating patients by severity of symptoms in addition to bringing in help from all over China. Also by isolating everyone with symptoms they were able to stop the spread rather than just send them home to self quarantine. Hard to imagine Westerners happily going off to field hospitals to isolate themselves from society.
China didn't have enough tests so used chest x rays to determine suspect cases. The head of Wuhan ER recommended separating infected from the healthy in hotels as quarantine centers and turning off the central air conditioning. He also noted Wuhan seems to be have developed some "herd immunity"
Requiring tracking apps on everyone's phone made tracking movement easy, another privacy violation that wouldn't fly here. Also China doesn't count asymptomatic cases even if they test positive so it is a given the numbers are off. |
