SE Michigan | Just did that a few weeks ago when the ground was froze. I went through and cut what I could with a small chain saw, just let the brush fall in the field. Came back through with my skid steer and a brush mower and chopped up everything into tooth pick sized pieces (except for the main stem of the tree. also ground up several standing trees and branches. Worked great, most trees were 3"-5" so the limbs were very small. Came back with a grapple bucket and piled the stems along the fence line to rot / or habitat
