Yes, it's time to wean last May/June's calves. I like to give the cows 30 days minimum with no calf on them but yet leave the calves, especially my heifer calves as pictured, on the cow as long as possible for maximum rumen development.

As you can see, cows are keeping condition pretty well, but it is time with May 1 theoretical start of calving. I'm sure glad my cows are not calving now.



30 days? Isn't that cutting it short? When does colostrum for the new calf Start being produced?
