Ya right ! we have no solid way to protect ourselves in this industry ! We have been told many times on here by obscure posters how " you had a year or six months to get them hedged" don't come whining to us when the market turns ugly ! and while record profits for some parts of the industry "packers" others get creamed while at no fault of the producer and with STRONG fundamentals a broken board leaves them vulnerable to the Wolf Pac. We have had no way to hedge anywhere close to what the fundamentals would consider reasonable let alone profitable. So we are faced with hedging for a loss ! hedging for a loss and gutting even more cash out with the cost of doing so. We care for a calf on this ranch from the day its born until the day it hits a hook, and with no legitimate safety system available in place get thrown to the wolves when a broken market indicator CME gets so far off and doesn't begin to represent true prices ! In walks the packer to capitalize on our perishable product and make a windfall in weeks on the product we spent 6 months to 18 months of our life on. So get next turn hedged boys its easy ! heck its practically a no brainer right now ! Ya Right !
