Too close to Raleigh, NC | With the disaster that Masonite turned out to be alot of people shied away from lap siding and went to vinyl as it is easier and cheaper to retro/cover with. I am covering the old painted plywood gable ends of my house with HardiPlank because I hate vinyl. Plus the heat does a number on it if you don't have the expensive thick vinyl.
I will put it this way, the million dollar plus houses in this area get HardiPlank, the low end get vinyl.
Cut it with a dedicated HardiPlank circular saw blade, wear a good respirator, use a framing nailer with full head 8d galvanized nails set on the lowest pressure the gun will operate on (50-60 psi), and stagger the seams. Not that hard to do correctly and it is guaranteed to outlast everything but brick. | |
