Subject: Dawn trash wheels unscrewing - anyone have a fix?

Pittsburg, Kansas

On our 1790 JD planter, when we fold up the rear rows (this is a 20" planter) to fold the planter, the Dawn trash wheels adjusting wheel will vibrate out of the lock position (they are sitting horizontal when the wings are folded up). Then when traveling down the road the screw adjust will back off and the trash wheel best case will be adjusted way deep or worse case falls off in the road ditch or road. Rows will end up adjusted all differently by the time we get to the next field. Sometimes the adjuster will randomly land in the unlocked adjusting position and the unit will change depths while working in the field.

Our solution to date the last few years has been either duct tape or baling wire, both a rather time consuming and pain in the butt solution. We were told a factory fix is forth coming but so far nothing there. Has anybody came up with a farmer solution besides baling wire or duct tape that is neat, easy to use, and still lets the units be easy to adjust? This is the biggest PITA of the Dawn units to date and is pretty aggravating.

Just started planting today.

John
