The steps are to click on the friend's name which takes you to a page that shows all their posts you are entitled to see. These will be sorted in latest to earliest order.

As you start scrolling down, there will be a box show up at the top of the page that allows you to jump to specific time periods. I didn't notice that for a long time so some of you might be missing it too.

In case you haven't figured out, the News Feed isn't just a list of most recent activity. Facebook tries to guess what you are most interested in and show you that first and most often. If you are following a business or a Facebook group, they seem to show something once, and it may be delayed. Your friend who is always posting annoying stuff? Well, that shows up every time you go into Facebook. So the stuff you really want to see again gets pushed down the feed.

There is also a setting to control what shows up in your news feed. I haven't had much luck making this stick.
