central mo | We've got a 4 camera DVR system setup where our grain bins are located. They're not IP camera's. They use coax cables to connect back to the DVR unit. The DVR is plugged into my network and its interface is viewable from any PC on our network. I like the idea of have IP cameras but they are pretty pricey. Also, both wireless and wired IP cameras are limited on the amount of distance you can have between it and the wireless or wired router or hub. (wireless distances vary but cat5 cable is rated at a max of 300ft) With coax, as long as you can stretch a cable to it and have power, you can get video from it.
With this setup, if I had a public IP address from my ISP (which cost like 20.00 a month extra ) I could setup my network for viewing my camera's from anywhere in the world via the internet. | |
