Subject: Re: Insight or FMD

Sunnyvale, CA
the FMX is the new Trimble offering, and is designed to replace the FMD. It has two built-in GPS receivers that can be activated as the need arises all the way from a single DGPS WAAS to dual GPS + GLONASS RTK receivers and a large touch sensitive display screen. The first receiver is for running the assisted steering Autopilot or EZ-Steer and all of the FMD precision ag applications. The second receiver has the following uses where the RTK antenna for the second receiver is attached to the implement:
1. Implement monitoring where the operator can monitor and record the location of the implement relative to the position of the tractor which is being automatically steered.
2. Passive implement steering where the vehicle is automatically steered to allow the implement to follow the desired path. The tractor will drive where necessary to keep the implement on the desired line.
3. Active implement steering where the implement has one of several active steering acuators installed, for instance Orthman steering coulters, Sunco 3-point hitch implement steering device, a hydraulically powered side to side implement slider, or planters with active steering wheels.
4. Land leveling where the second RTK antenna is mounted on the scraper blade.
The Autopilot retains its calibration and recalibration is necessary when significant changes are made to the tractor that affect the steering dynamics, assuming the first calibration was properly done.
