I finally got the cable I was thinking might be the problem replaced and now I've got my sound back. It wasn't too bad to fix really. It's a little cable that goes to the power button. There are two small cables on the left side of the machine and this one is the left of the two. The light on my power button wouldn't come on before and now it does. Here's what I bought on Ebay: HP Pavilion DV6000 Power Button switch cable 431437-001 From this place: http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-Pavilion-DV6000-Power-Button-switch-cable-431437-001_W0QQitemZ150325019347QQihZ005QQcategoryZ177QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem You can go here to get info from HP's site on disassembling the laptop: http://h20181.www2.hp.com/plmcontent/NACSC/SML/ Or use this link: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=226910 You don't actually have to remove the top case just the media panel and the keyboard. Then you can get to the cable. One fastener has to have the lock released first and the other end of the cable is a LIF (low insertion force) connector which means you just pull it out and push the new one in. Anyway it fixed the sound. Hopefully that will be what's wrong with the others as it's a fairly easy fix that you can do at home. Here's the old cable--it's about 1/4" wide by 5 1/2" long.
