Near-north Ontario, French River
Not sure what they would be hauling in van type trailer, especially this time of year that would require heating but its a common site here in the summer for trucks hauling hot asphalt for road construction. Keeps the tar in the asphalt warm enough to prevent the load from solidifying while in transit. I would guess the trucks you encountered were hauling something with alot of moisture in it, and they were 'heating' the load to prevent it from freezing to the inside of the trailer, but what the actual product was I couldn't even guess.
