Subject: hog Surprizes

sw ontario
Hogs were a good deal from '75 to around 2006 with the exception of '98/99 fiasco , now its a dog fight for a bone or two all the time.......Ontario is pretty much all "family hog farms" but those families still in hogs are getting much bigger ,using off shore labor and so far seem to be able to with stand mkt. forces....note: most are land based and with land tripling in value the last 10 yrs. bankers feel more secure......We are 250-275 sows F-F and land based with a decent packer contract but were margins have been I don't know what the future holds.....since so many guys in our county have quit hogs it at times makes you feel like the Maytag repairman....now to OP its not the prize its the surprise as my late Father would say "every day when you go into the barn its a new surprize ,and usually not a good one"
