You are correct - you will need a separate receiver. The Phoenix 300 is the receiver you'll need. If the $400 is not a deal breaker, I would suggest getting the Pro with GPS and just disabling it for now. If you ever want to move to a vehicle that doesn't require Omnistar, you wouldn't have to move the P300 around. Also, you'll always have a backup.
