Cows generally know what's toxic, and won't eat it unless forced to. There are exceptions. Wilted cherry leaves and Yew bushes are two that exist around here. Yew is only a planted shrub, so the cows only access it if somebody threw trimmings over the fence. Wilted cherry is a very real concern. If no branches break out of the wild cherry tree, all's fine. If one does break out and is allowed to wilt for a few hours, it takes just a handful of leaves to kill.
