Western Ohio
Just IF,

Sounds like you are a little like me not every pasture is easy to work cows in and sometimes just have to make best of situation. I would take calf home and put in the orphan pen. Let the 16 month old heifer clean her self up and next time that pasture is gathered grab her and decide what to do. More than likely she would head to the feedlot pen to be fattened from here and just gotten rid of. I know she should not have been bred and calved very early but. She did not make the grade. Just make my first loss the best loss and get rid of her is the easiest thing next time she is easy to catch. I have a few stockers is a wrong pen right now. Used to I would go clean them up and put them back right away. When you consider the time and effort, often it is easier to just wait until things are near a catch pen in a week or 2 and deal with it then.
Think I would be thankful it turned out as well as it has so far.

Phil
