Subject: RE: Amity 3750 defoliator vs Alloway Fd-s defoliator

The earlier Amity's had some gearbox mount breakage after a while, but they have reinforced the mounts and solved that problem. They also have put larger hubs on the stabilizer gauge wheels and now have a hydraulic dampner option on them that takes 90% or more of the rocking motion out of the machine when in Dammer Diker fields. Amity has 4 pins of steel cup flails over the row and L-knives between the rows on the front drum and 10 pins on the second drum. Alloway has 8 pins on their second row with an option to get 10 pins. Both machines will do a great job, but when you try to decide which one is best for you, dollar for dollar, an Amity 50 series with hydraulic row finder, active height control, and hydraulic stabilizers (a fully loaded machine) is about the same price as the Alloway S model which folds and has hydraulic row finder. So if you have 100K to spend on a defoliator, you need to decide if you would rather have a folding machine that will transport at 13' wide and is easier to change the center bearings or a machine that when you pull into the field, you push a button to set the height and it continually adjusts the height as you defoliate.
