Central Illinois | You are probably ahead of me. I had bought enough sept calls about a month ago to cover all feed needs for a year. They did well and I ended up just rolling them out to December near the money on friday. I plan to just sit on them for awhile, there was enough profit in the September’s to lower the cost on my initial investment and still have my feed needs somewhat protected and that is why I bought them and plan on keeping them for awhile to see how everything plays out. As long as the basis doesn’t get too wild I should have my corn needed for feed locked in at about 3.84. Don’t know what cattle are going to do but I hope that is low enough to work for awhile. We do grow the corn we feed and harvest as earlage, But would rather make money farming and feeding cattle rather than just one or the other! | |
