Make sure you have the phone setting so that it will make calls on wifi. I'm not even sure if they will, or if wifi is just for data. I had to get a signal booster from my cell carrier for the house.
I got an Iphone 8 a couple months ago, to me it seems pretty much the same as the 6 I had before. Just figured it was time to trade up and the carrier had a special going.
