I would agree. We have seen a lot of years when alter planted corn doesn't need as many growing degree days as the book says. The plant seems to sense the season ending and speeds up the process.
I have never had shorter season corn yield with or outyield longer season maturities. Unless there is a good reason to plant a short season variety such as early harvest I'm better off going with fuller season varieties.
