In my opinion, it is better than the PF. It will have a color map instead of just black and white so you can see all the different areas of a field. It will be easier to calibrate and get to the settings if need to and you won't have to worry about a fatal data object error. I've seen that error come up more than a few times and it requires basically clearing out the PF to like it was new out of the box and if you didn't have a card with some previous data, you would have to set that all up again with the initial combine settings and those can be hard to come by. The Edge will store all the combine settings in there so you won't have to worry about that.  It will use a compact flash card. Depending on what kind of card you used for the PF, you may have that kind of card already.  The PF initially came with an SRAM card but when those started to get hard to find, people started using compact flash with adapter to use that with the PF.   

You will be able to use the GPS1500. It will be plug and play
