Subject: RE: Deere 8310R Hydraulic Problem

It's a funny story, but if you're steering and moving at the same time, it's actually a hydraulic adjustment set too high on the steering to make the steering easier.

The priority valve is located on the side of the differential housing next to the right rear tires. Find the filters, and directly behind them, there is a 1 7/8 fitting with a short line coming out the center that takes a 7/8 wrench. Remove that 1 7/8 fitting, and it should have 1 black o-ring and 4 white/tan ones. RE252945 is the replacement part number. This causes all sorts of funny issues with the machine from time to time, usually hard steering, and can lead to the reason the below adjustment got out of whack.

Back to the valves kicking out though.
Hydraulic pressure with a gauge on the P port on side of pump, no load, standby pressure is 480-600 psi or so.
Hydraulic pressure with a gauge on the P port on side of pump, empty SCV engaged, full pressure is 2850-3000 psi according to the book. I set them in the 2950 to 3000 range everytime.
Hydraulic pressure with a gauge on the CF port, steering wheel fully to right and turning against pressure, steering pressure is 2450-2600.
Same test as the one right above, engage a black SCV at the same time. Steering pressure is 2450-2600.

If the last 2 pressure are above about 2600, or the main pressure isn't 2950-3000, which is a 350-400 psi pressure differential, then you engage a safety mode in the priority valve that will disable the SCV's if you use a function and steer at the same time, but IT DOESN'T THROW A CODE! Only way to reset is to cut the machine off.

Usual causes for this issue can include: Complaining to a junior shop mechanic about your steering being stiff, him crawling under the machine, and coming out 2 minutes later saying it's fixed. I have a guy at our shop I seem to have to follow around in the field fixing this the right way, but management won't discuss the proper procedures with him.
