Subject: RE: Ford 841 Rear Axle Housing

Durant EC Iowa
We use 80-90 gear oil in ours. Had that done few years ago by dealer. IIRC needed to heat up to either get them on or take off plus need to shim to have play.

Edit to note the axle housing is separate from hydraulic and the transmission is also a separate housing. In addition we have a Sherman over under which takes oil from transmission but is also another housing. Right or wrong we run 80-90 in axle, hydraulic oil in that housing, and 85-140 in transmission/Sherman as that shaft seal has tendency to leak and the Sherman housing does not have much oil capacity to it.
