Will have to see if new alternator spades are labeled. I put the tab toward front of tractor. Gauge was charging slightly after starting tractor. About two minutes later alt was a smokin. Guessing the tab needs to be reversed. I was told new alt had two spades on the back. It has three on the side. Technically I guess it does have two. :(

Tab to the front is correct for that delco alt. Wires are IG on nipo = #1 on delco.
#2 on delco = S on nipo alternator.
Your plug is on correct, almost certainly what is smoking your alternator is that you did not fully charge the battery before starting the new alternator.
