What did you do to your 4640 because that isn’t stock. Our 4640 never smoked like that and even if it did you could still only use half the horsepower because of the 2 wheel drive.

The tractor was basicly idling along in gear, and my boy smacked the throttle wide open. Doing that will roll some serious coal, as you can see. It does not smoke to speak of under a load.

The fuel screw was turned about 1.5 turns from factory. From new it ran at 175 hp. So we bumped it up 50 hp.

There is an aneroid on top of the injector pump to limit how much fuel the pump will put out before the turbo spools up, and creates boost. It is adjustable. This limits the amount of smoke created when you "smack" the throttle at low rpms (before the turbo has a chance to spool up.) That feature can also make them seem "doggy" and somewhat "gutless" at lower rpms.

On the 4640 in the picture, the aneroid screw is adjusted to allow the injector pump to put out 100% of the fuel it is set for without "seeing" boost. The fuel being turned up is responsible for some of the extra low rpm smoke. But the aneroid adjustment is the reason for the biggest portion of all that extra smoke.

The aneroid adjustment does not increase max hp. That is determined by the screw setting in the injector pump. The aneroid adjustment simply allows the injector pump to put out all the fuel it's set for without boost. Normally the pump will not put out a lot of fuel until the turbo builds boost. That limits the "coal rolling"

Clear as mud??

( In our soils, if you.would pull a three point hitch chisel plow in 5th gear, (8 speed PS) you would be able to use that hp. With good radial duals and no added weight besides some weights in the front to keep it down. With a trailer type chisel, you would need some added rear weight. Secondary tillage in loose chiseled ground, traction would become a larger issue yet.)
