A friend of mine has the same one and uses the filter and storage container to store the used oil in the fridge for re-use. He likes that route.  I've only used the oil filter once. I thought it was maybe too much work. I use a (kitchen only) funnel and a (new) paint strainer to pour the used oil back into the original container. I find it easier to wash the funnel as opposed to the storage container.
