I used to have an LS170, have an L170 now.    They will handle a large bale within reason.   They do get tippy, especially if you lift the loader too high since the bucket goes forward as it goes up.   Rough guess would be 1400 lb bale is about as heavy as I want to go.   I know I can lift a lot more weight on a pallet than I can with the bucket and grab fork, but then bucket weighs more too.

What I'm saying is, they work just fine as long as you don't make the bales too large.
