Yeah probably did. I used to look at certain ridge lines and every now and then see a few pines dotting the landscape. Those areas must’ve been covered with them prior to the mid to late 1800’s.

One of my late aunts told how there used to be boiler powered sawmills closer to some of the nearby towns. One of them in town blew up when the boiler popped. After the mines and railroads pulled out, the towns crumbled. The tiny cemeteries are the main clues left to tell the stories that towns and communities ever existed there. The buildings either burned or any brick/stone was repurposed and hauled away.
