Tuscola, IL | The air tank is basically an accumulator. The reason they're helpful on hydraulic systems is because you cannot compress fluid. Compressing the air in the system gives the same result as what an accumulator would create. As said above, most guys I run into run with a little bit of up pressure anyway. Especially in conventional tillage. I don't think you have much to worry about in the way of damaging the cylinder. If it were to happen, I think it probably would happen with or without installing the accumulator.
