Yes that's how IL works. Its and add back to income the first year of the bonus and then a subtraction in subsequent years unti all of the the denied bonus is recovered.
Yes you could look it at as keeping a second depr schedule for the State, but that depr schedule is just a means to get to the addback and subtraction calculation.
