Subject: winter waterer

NNW Nebraska
Old antique Richey waterer, missing insulation. 1 cow drinking on it. Morning after 19 below.
Second & 4th pictures show amount of warer overflowing.
Upwind side was froze, but just I lifted the ice out. Down wind side was open. Would work better if incoming water was directed to the drinking areas instead of just close to the overflow.

Pvc with holes in it sits over the overflow pipe to keep floaters from plugging the over flow
No bleed valve, just have water level set slightly above the overflow. Probably less than 1/4 ".

Water line comes up 4" pvc.

It Has a heater & heat tape, but power was off. So much cheaper to run a small amount of water than electric heaters. Also the water going to this waterer is the output from my house heat pump, so it is colder than well water.
