My math says if I want to plant ~1,000,000 seeds/ac I would need 1000 hole drums or spin the drums ~10 times faster I don’t think spinning the drums that fast is a good idea
If you spin the drum fast enough you won't need any air pressure to keep seeds in the pockets...
With enough money and time anything is possible, but I don't see modifying an existing drum being practical or worthwhile, and having a shop make new drums would require custom punch dies to form 1000 holes per row and their associated pockets. I think your best bet is to just buy a drill.
Just had a thought--if you don't want to use the planter for anything else, how about taking the seed hoppers off and hooking an air cart to the planter? Air drill metering, Early Riser openers... could be cool.
