SE MN | Barring divine influence, it seems very unlikely that we are alone in terms of life. There are some theories that life on this planet was seeded by life carried from elsewhere on frozen comets, though I think that nucleotides arranged by the alternating electrical charges on stacks of clay particles is the leading theory, its been a while since college biology.
The more interesting question is why we don't seem to see any evidence of intelligent life given the apparently massive number of possibilities for it to develop. Google the Fermi paradox for a good time. My favorite is a combination of faster than light travel being actually impossible and technologically advanced civilizations becoming more prone to self destruction the more advanced they become acting as a great filter. | |
