Subject: RE: A question for veterans

As a veteran we were trained to salute (proper form) the flag and any officer as a show of respect for their rank (not the person). You better salute an officer even if he was a chickenshxt.

In 2009 the flag etiquette law was changed to allow veterans to salute the flag while wearing civilian dress(must wear a hat to salute) However, the law is very confusing and they amended 1 section but left 2 sections unchanged so they are conflicting.

I still feel a little uncomfortable saluting a flag if not wearing a veteran hat. I remove a ball cap and place over heart.

I personaly prefer salutes be reserved for veterans, and would enjoy shaking hands
