Madison Co. Virginia | I specifically ordered pliers without the ear release. I had a bad experience with an older pair that quit sliding and got bent. I wanted simple and stupid when I ordered a new one from stone. That's only my experience. Obviously most folks want the ear release, since that's all the catalog companies stock.
You could order with, and if you get frustrated with it at some point, slice it off with an angle grinder.
For other suggestions, again, remember that I wanted simple and stupid. I was intentionally avoiding the complex "easy squeeze" pliers, and the rotary head ones. But that's just me.
