Subject: RE: Case ih talc/graphite

Spring Lake, MI
Hello.

CaseIH supplies 80/20 and 20/80. Some dealers also stock 50/50. In the seed lubricant world the talc percentage comes first; however, some of the CNH global parts listings put the larger number first. So: some of the CNH product that is labeled 80/20 will be 80% talc, while a similar looking part with a different PN will be 80% graphite. There will be a significant difference in price. To further complicate the situation, the "all-brands" product is a similar composition, but uses more coarse particles thus resulting in drastically different performance characteristics.

It is easy to see where so much confusion comes from.

Put simply: if you are using the Case IH Advanced Seed Meter, that meter works remarkably well with heavy graphite mixes. From straight graphite to 80% graphite is common. On soybeans, peanuts, acid-delinted cotton many of our growers get along well with a 50/50 mix. And in some situations, straight talc works well; however, many growers have issues with meter drive train drag on the ASM meter if the graphite ratio is too light or the particle size is too large to be effective.

If you are using a Case IH planter with precision meters (vSet/vDrive) then those meters are made to work with 80% talc / 20% Graphite.

So: there are two 80/20 ratios at some Case IH dealers for two different planters, but they may both be labeled 80/20, and generally speaking they do not interchange well on the same planter.

Feel free to give a call or check our website for more info. I'm happy to visit about specific details for use, application, etc.
