Michigan | I have most of my acres spoken for due to dry bean contracts and winter wheat. What remains is 200 acres of moderate to heavy clay. My first intentions were to plant corn, because this ground is low on organic matter, but am now thinking soybeans for basic convenience of little to no fertilizer, lower seed cost and less product to haul to the elevator.
My biggest issue is that soys don't seem to preform very well on this farm as they do on my poorer soils.
We yielded 71 bu beans on light ground last year, with little to no rain all summer.
This heavier ground has not had any soybeans production on it for several years.
Previous crop was drybeans with a current cover crop of wheat.
Any recommendations on seed treatments or fertilizer requirements to jump start a soybean crop on poor history soils?TIA
