I’ve done 2 builds over the past couple years. 1st one was an offset with pipe similar to yours. The 2nd one was a reverse flow offset built out of a 560 gallon nh3 tank. It is imperative to getting the size of the firebox correct to the cooking chamber. The air intake, firebox hole to cooking chamber, stack diameter and height are all a working relationship. I used Feldons bbq calculator while designing mine. I have less into my cookers than a 1/2 decent bbq grill costs. Both of mine will out last my children. They hold heat awesome and you can’t put cook an offset wood burner, period! I use mine probably 100 days a year and only burn dried split oak or ash. What I’ve saved in charcoal has paid for both smokers.
