east central PA | U of IL Extension did a long term study a few years back. Not sure if there is a current one. they followed advisor advice over several seasons. maybe 17 advisors. all the ones we can name.
The take away:
yes, two or three will beat the market each year. It is never the same ones. The 'winners' do not repeat often.
For the ones that do not beat the market - part of the problem is the transaction costs for the farmer exceed the increase in dollars received. So, there is no gain in the check book. If these folks had done nothing they would be better off.
Picking the few that will win this next year is impossible.
