| As I understood the situation there were 2 types of slaughter horse markets.
1. Human food
2. Others; such as pet food.
Some of the horses being exported from the US into Mexico for processing were for human consumption. It was also my understanding that horses were no longer being processed for human consumption in Canada.
Commercial slaughtering of horses for human food no longer takes place in the US. Not sure if any are processed in the US. I think the industry suffers from low popularity created by pressure from animal rights activists In both the US and Canada.
