Keeping the tank is a possibility in some brands but I'm not sure how you would know for sure.
In my research, I found that most of these "high rise" toilets are only 1" taller than what I have now (15 1/8"). Seems to be a lot of money to gain 1". I did find 1 that was 5" taller, but it was nearly $1000.
