Subject: estimating live weights

Eagle River Ontario Canada
I have been looking around online to see if there is a relatively easy way to estimate a steers weight without using a scale. I found several charts that use the girth of the animal behind the shoulder to get an approximate weight. I have also found a formula that states the Girth x Girth x length of the animal / 300 will give you an approximate weight as well. I did the math on a couple of our steers and the numbers i got i was happy with, is there any one who has used this method in the past?
