I use drip tape in watermelons. The issue you’ll have on top of the ground is mice chewing holes in it. We bury ours 2” deep (still have some rodent issues). Call Irrigation-Mart in Ruston, La. They can tell you the best brand, thickness, and if you buy from them they’ll even use an elevation map and lay out your system for you.
