Subject: RE: Soybean in furrow ideas

Sanilac Co. Michigan
I had myself convinced an in furrow, low salt, seed safe liquid fertilizer on beans would make a huge yield difference. I WAS VERY WRONG!

Did my own replicated trials using fertilizer, no fertilizer and water. Typically the best yield response was with no treatment. Typically the lowest yield was with fertilizer. About the only in furrow thing I've ever had a response to is properly inoculated seed. Small grains really do respond to in furrow fertilizers, beans its a waste of money and time.

Its been said by a lot of guys before and I think its true: beans respond to fertility, not fertilizer.

Oh, and from what I can tell, "biological" and other assorted pixy dust is just another way to separate the poor desperate farmer from his money. There's always some yutz trying to sucker ya!
