I have used WD40 for flushing various control cables over the years. One thing it seems to do well is carry the accumulated rust and dirt out of the the cable if you flush enough. Have not had any problems with incompatibility with cable sleeve or liner but I suppose it could happen. Cables typically will work for years again before needing a repeat.
