Try www.handbrake.fr to convert - I think Moviemaker likes .avi files which are lossless? mp4 or mov are a more manageable size.
It would be better if you asked them to send .mp4 or .mov perhaps.

Edit - also you might need to downsize to 1080p if they are 4K which is increasingly default.
