You’re correct about the maximum payload capability, Chinooks and -53s get up not far from there too. However, there’s a very big difference between cargo secured inside or mounted to the aircraft vs. a sling load of something external and hanging far below. The margins of safety for center of gravity with a potentially swinging object would be much different for a helo crew that wants to live.
