| We have been using compost, compost teas and raw manures since 1996. Its like anything, don't expect huge results for the first 5 years. It has been a lot of trial and errors over the past several years. Compost and cover crops used together have proven to be the largest improvement for our sand in Western Nebraska. There are no two farms the same due to the needs of the soil food web. First study what your soil needs and build from there. Our farm needed higher fungal and less microbial bacteria. The end result was a healthier soil, better water retention and higher yield results. Our farm is 50% corn and 50% soybeans. Both dry land with annual rain fall of 12" and irrigated with limited water supply. Our main goal was preserving water retention when the rains showed up. Good luck | |
