Missouri | I've got 6 seasons on our rear rows, and 4 on our push rows, on a 12/23, and haven't had a failure yet. I consider myself as having better than average luck at that point. They are the most reliable planter section control device I have ever seen, but I still recommend having a spare on hand at 3+ years of age. Excessive torque can be very hard on them. I know a local guy that had his corn meters serviced poorly. They pulled way too hard. It wasn't until after the season when we put his meters on the test stand and found a rolling torque WAY too high that we figured out why he ruined so many clutches that season. You could not turn these meters without a pliers. Also, leaving too little slack in the output chain can be real hard on them. There's no tensioner on that chain, and if dirt builds up on the chain, it can get way too tight without something to give slack. | |
