Subject: RE: How can you rig scales?

Buhl, ID
Earlier this week I was at a dairy and there was an inspection report from Weights and Measures sitting on the desk. Their platform scale failed inspection. The report showed about 8 to 10 different measurements they took, front back left right middle ascending etc. Two of the measurements were off by 60# in 20,000 if remember correctly. Errors always seem to make them weight light. Today a company was there doing service and adjustments on it.
Bottom line is platform scales often get out of calibration due to dirt, feed, birds, rust, even ice. All they can do is have it regularly calibrated and serviced. I would hate to be the operator accused of rigging when it's an unconscious error and poor maintenance on the company's part.
