Pierce county WI | Exactly! I worked all the time when I was young. I bought my first piece of ground at 21. My friends had new vehicles and went on vacations. I had farm payments. Use the cash flow from trucking to buy ground. What are you worried about building equity in equipment? You as an economic major should know about depreciation. I caution you about investing too much in trucking. Autonomous tech in trucking is the future. Probably 15 good years though.
If anything you as a young farmer have an advantage. You have time. And you have nothing to lose, and no family to have to worry about. Go to some of those landlords and ask about a land contract. Scrape up every penny you have for a down payment. If you want, you will make it work. Maybe relocate to a less competitive farm community? Good luck. | |
